Well I can tell you that you have made an excellent choice in choosing a Navy job. There are many different aspects of Aviation jobs in the Navy. I’m a AO(Aviation Ordnanceman) I work with aircraft weapons and weapons systems. I’ll list them for you
AO = Weapons bombs, missile, mines, torpedos, airplane guns
AE = Aviation electrician (aircraft wiring and connections)
AT = Aviation electronics tech (radar,in-fared,camera pods, secret stuff
AG = Weather guy
PR = Parachute guy
AC = Air traffic control guy
AS – support equipment guy (tractors that move planes, machines to start up planes)
AD = airplane engines
AM = hydraulics, tires, wings, flight controls, brakes,
AW = Aircrew, sonar guys track submarines, help launch torpedoes, fly in helicopters and airplanes or swimmers who rescue people in need in the water.
There you go man there are a lot of options. Feel free to contact me if you need more info

The best job is one that you enjoy doing.
Personally, I’d stay off the flight deck no matter what it took. That means jobs like Air Traffic Control, Weather Forecasting and Aviation Administration would be the “best.”
Other non-flight deck jobs are in aviation electronics and ASW Operator.

An Avaiation Mechanics Mate is a great start. You would be working as aircraft engine mechanic. After AD common school in Pensacola Florida you would go to either Prop,Jet or Helicopter school. AD’s can also volunteer to become aircrew memebers and do flight time and can even qualify as rescue swimmers. Skills learned can be valauble in the outside world especially in helicopter maintenance
