  1. Yes

  2. YEs

  3. Every airplane has to go through stict safety standards before going into service, and once in service they are inspected almost daily, so you have nothing to worry about.

  4. No- the airplane has been around since the 70′s..

    Of course it is..

  5. They’re getting old, but fly with a reputable airline, and they are as safe as any other airplane.

Safety is more and more dependent on maintenance, especially as the aircraft ages. Fly with a reputable airline, and it isn’t likely that they would’ve omitted some important maintenance, therefore it would be just as safe as any other airplane. I just find them quite loud, from the ground, and from the cabin.

  6. Do you realize how many thousands and thousands of people fly commercially every year without incident? The odds of being involved in on are incredibly low and the odds of being involved in a fatal one are even lower.

  7. It’s alot safer than

    -Driving to airport
    -Walking down your neighborhood
    -Sleeping

Out of 200 million people flying a year, only about 100 of them get injured, 25 die. Now compared to those amount of car deaths a minute… enough said

  8. Yes i have flown on the MD-80 jets many times. As long as you are on a well known domestic airline like Delta or American then you will be fine. However, if u dont want to get your ears blown out i would try to sit farthest away from the tail of the aircraft as possible. I would do this because the engines are on the tail of the aircraft and are very loud.

  9. Definitely.

All commercial airliners (or any for that matter) go through extreme tests for durability and safeness.

If an airplane shows any sign of weakness, it fails and needs to be sorted – period. All commercial airliners get regular checks to see if anything is in order, and indeed the pilots will do a “walk about” before flight to check that all things visible look OK. If anything doesn’t look as it is meant to, the pilots will ask to get it looked at.

Do you really think pilots would fly an unsafe airplane? After all, its your life and theirs that hangs in the balance.

So, to answer your question in short, it is safe to fly on MD-80′s. Think of it this way: you’d probably have more chance of getting knocked over and killed by a car than you are on a commercial aircraft.
